Although the scuba diving watch is definitely optional and not at all a necessity for diving, it is certainly a benefit to have, as being able to tell the time when you are underwater can be critical. Not only will you most likely have a schedule you will have to stick to, but it can be dangerous if you stay under the water for too long and so it is important to have a means of telling time during your diving session.
